The Great Georgia Give held its final visit of its philanthropic tour Friday, May 15 in Savannah, Georgia. For the past four weeks, Milk On My Mind and its partners have traveled to Atlanta, Macon, Augusta and Savannah to donate a total of 24,000 half-gallons of local Georgia milk to first responders, hospitals, police and fire stations, and other areas of communities in need.

As our dairy farmers continue to navigate supply chain disruptions due to COVID-19, The Great Georgia Give has worked to help combat the practice of milk dumping and donate milk to Georgians in need of nourishment. The impact of this initiative benefits not only dairy farmers, but also the heroic first responders and the many communities that make up the great state of Georgia.

“The Savannah Police Department is pleased to accept this donation of milk for our officers,” Savannah Police Chief Roy Minter said. “This is a great opportunity for our officers to receive milk for their families while also assisting dairy farmers with reducing a surplus. Many of our officers with larger families and multiple children who are out of school are especially appreciative of the cost savings this will afford their families.”

This four-week philanthropic community effort is led by Milk on My Mind in partnership with Dairy Farmers of AmericaKrogerGeorgia Department of Agriculture and Centennial Farms Dairy.

“The Great Georgia Give has been an incredible success these last four weeks,” said Paul Johnson, Georgia dairy farmer and board chairman of Georgia Agriculture Commodity Commission for Milk. “We are proud to have served our dairy farmers, healthcare workers and our communities during these unprecedented times. The power of the human spirit is truly inspirational and the Great Georgia Give is a shining example of that.”

The Great Georgia Give was planned and coordinated for Milk on My Mind, a dairy awareness program initiated and funded by Georgia Dairy Farmers through the Department of Agriculture’s Commodity Commission for Milk.
